PEF Distributes scholarships among students of PUFCIT LAHORE: (Thursday, October 19, 2023): Professional Education Foundation (PEF) has organized a scholarships distribution ceremony for the students of Punjab University Faculty of Computing & Information Technology. On this occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Computing & Information Technology Dr Shahzad Sarwar, PEF’s scholarship program head Ma'rab Bashir, faculty members and students were present. In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that philanthropists should come forward to help deserving intelligent students because it is a great deed. He said that he had been able to continue his studies in school only due to the scholarship. He said that helping someone in difficult times is an important part of our religion. He said that due to inflation in the country, bearing education expenses has become a problem for many families. He urged the students to think how they can help others in any capacity. Dr Shahzad Sarwar said that an MoU was signed with PEF in 2022 to provide scholarships to brilliant FCIT students. He said that scholarships are being provided to 400 students every year. He said that the scholarships included university fees and hostel expenses. He said that it is amazing to find out that Mr Asad Jamal is the single largest donor of PEF who contributes more than 500 scholarships. He said Mr Asad attended London School of Economics and afterwards settled in silicon-valley USA. Mr Asad Jamal was founding investor of the Chinese search engine BAIDU. He said that now holds 76% market share and has a worth of multi-billion dollars. He said that Mr Asad Jamal is serial venture capitalist and wants to invest in IT future of Pakistan. Ma'rab Bashir said that meritorious students are unable to complete their education simply because of expenses. He said that so far these scholarships are being offered to the brilliant students of 41 Universities all over Pakistan. In year 2022-23, two-hundred (200) Million rupees are granted which supports 2650 students of professional education. He said that so far, the alumni network spans over 2700 professionals who are already contributing 100s of scholarships, he added.
