The Health Psychology team has launched its counselling services for students and staff at Health Desk at the Institute of Applied Psychology The Health Psychology team has launched its counselling services for students and staff at Health Desk at the Institute of Applied Psychology as part of their course work, under the supervision of Dr. Fatima Kamran, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator. The MS Health Psychology trainees provide awareness to students, staff members, and visitors regarding health promoting and health risk behaviours and guide them towards healthy life styles. Identification of health risky behaviors leads to an early detection and prevention of serious chronic conditions including Diabetes and Hypertension. The provision of information leaflets, and monitoring of blood pressure, BMI calculation, weight monitoring and blood glucose levels is carried out for students and staff members aiming to improve their psychological wellbeing and overall Quality of life. Trainees are working on both preventive and management levels to minimize future risks of serious chronic conditions. Awareness videos aim to educate them regarding regular screening and monitoring of chronic health conditions like cancer, ESRD, hepatitis, diabetes, obesity and Hypertension. They also motivate them to adopt preventive measures. Apart from regular awareness campaigns, students offer services like blood pressure checkup, blood sugar and BMI. Those identified as having blood pressure or diabetes are provided with customized diet plans and required life style modifications including regular exercise.
