PU Library marks World Book and Copyright Day LAHORE: (Friday, April 26, 2024): On the eve of World Book & Copyright Day the Punjab University Library organized various events. The program commenced with a ceremony where appreciation certificates from Vice Chancellor University of the Punjab were distributed among the dedicated members of Publishers/Book Sellers Liaison Committee and volunteers in recognition of their valuable contribution in Punjab University Book Fair 2024 by Prof Dr Nabila Rehman, Principal of Oriental College. In the subsequent stage, participants engaged in stimulating discussions on two books led by Dr. Ayesha Akram, Assistant Professor from the Institute of English Studies. Dr. Akram led an insightful exploration of Romila Thapar’s seminal work "Voices of Dissent: An Essay", emphasizing the role of political dissent in shaping India’s history and societal norms. Simultaneously, Dr Muhammad Naeem, Associate Professor from the Oriental College, led a captivating session on "Afsanay, Dramay, or Novel k Chandd Oraaq" by Muhammad Salim-ur-Rehman. He discussed the inclusion of two plays known for their fast-paced action and gripping narratives, as well as the intriguing presence of several pages from an unfinished novel, sparking curiosity among readers. Concluding the event, the top 10 library users were honored with the esteemed Book Lovers Award, recognizing their avid engagement and contribution to the library community by the hands of Mr Mahmood ul Hassan, a renowned journalist and great book lover. Speaking at the event, Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani said that through engaging discussions and the acknowledgment of our dedicated readers, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting a culture of reading and respecting intellectual property rights.
