Ms. Amna Munawwar Awan, President COPAIR spoke about the importance of Regional connevtivity in today's rapidly changing global scenario. She said that the regional connectivity serves as a conduit for economic, political and social interactions among nations within a specific geographic area. Ms. Amna discussed how the competition among major powers to establish alliances has prompted smaller nations to reassess their foreign policies. Dr. Askari talked about the world shift from geo-politics to geo-economy. The main questions raised were, how this paradigm shift can help Pakistan and how Pakistan can overcome Security dialogue? Dr. Salman discussed the impact of CPEC on Gilgit-Baltistan. Since tourism is a big industry in GB, it would be the primary beneficiary of CPEC, being the gateway to China & Central Asia. However, unless legal issues of GB are resolved, there lies a lot many problems. Dr. Adnan explained how the US and China in countering each other are developing regional alliances. It is high time for Pakistan to get benefit out of that but the primary question is how does Pakistan formulate its policy. Raja Faisal emphasized on developing economic alliances and youth alliances. He said that China is emerging as a great economic power as it is investing in Iran and Afghanistan other than Pakistan. Dr. Khokhar said that Pakistan needs to adopt the diversified approach. He was of the view that different innovative areas need to be initiated for development. He stressed on the role of ICT which is very important and first step towards enhancing regional connectivity. At the end, Prof. Dr. Naheed S. Goraya, Director CSAS said that connectivity is the foundation stone of regional integration & cooperation. Dr. Goraya stressed that an effective security order for Asia must be based, not on the spheres of influence or coercion or intimidation where big powers bully the small, but on alliance of mutual security, International Law, International norms and peaceful resolution of disputes. The Webinar was attended by many M.Phil & PhD scholars, followed by Q & A.
