LAHORE: (Wednesday, August 28, 2024): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that PU College of Art and Design (CAD) has played an important role in the promotion of art education in Pakistan. He was addressing the opening ceremony of the ‘art exhibition’ organized by PU College of Art and Design. On this occasion, Principal CAD Dr Samina Naseem, former principals Dr Rahat Naveed Masood, Shahnawaz Zaidi, Zaulqarnain Haider, Khalid Mehmood, Zafarullah, Maleeha Agha, former eminent faculty members Rukhsana David, Rukh Nilofar Kahkshan, Mussarat Hasan, Khalid Iqbal, faculty members and students were present.The exhibition was organized in connection with anniversary celebrations, marking the institution's establishment on August 14, 1940.

In the exhibition, the works of teachers and famous artists of the college were displayed. In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the Department of Fine Arts was established in PU in 1940. He said that the artworks of the alumni were presented in the exhibition. He said that the art of teachers has received worldwide recognition. He said it was a powerful reminder that art has the ability to unite, inspire, and transform us.
Artworks based on the reflection of the Pakistan Movement were also presented in the exhibition. Anna Molka's artworks were also exhibited at the event.
The Art Show is organized and curated by Professor Dr. Samina Nasim,
Dr Samina said that this exhibition showcases the artistic talents of both current and former faculty members, highlighting the college's rich legacy in art education.
She said the exhibition will continue till September 10th 2024, at the Anna Molka Art Gallery & Grand Hall, of the College of Art & Design.
She said that in this show the artworks of all former Principals, faculty and present faculty of the university college are displayed. The exhibition brings together generations of artists. Dr Samina said it will feature a diverse range of artworks including traditional and contemporary painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, fiber arts, documentary film, and digital art. She expressed that this showcase not only highlights individual artistic expressions but also celebrates the collective contribution to the college's legacy over the past 84 years.
This momentous occasion is a vibrant celebration of creativity and artistic excellence. It is a testament to the creative spirit and dedication of our faculty members, who have played a pivotal role in nurturing the artistic talents of our students," she stated.
The exhibition serves as a bridge between generations of artists, showcasing the evolution of artistic styles and techniques while honoring the institution's longstanding commitment to excellence in art education.
